Optimization KickThe ability to kick the ball powerfully is very important as it enlarges the probability of successful passes and shoots. We used a simple online search algorithm to find kick sequences that kick the ball powerfully. Search is conducted during the game when players want to kick the ball, no learning is used. The search is divided in two phases. The first search phase is a random search algorithm that uses a predictor of the result of random kick sequences to select the best one. The second search phase tries to improve the kick sequence found in the previous phase using a hill-climbing algorithm. This simple algorithm allowed our players to kick the ball in any direction taking few cycles and quite powerfully. |
