Micro-Rato and Ciber-Rato
The Competition Micro-Mouse is a robotics competition
that is held regularly since 1995, organized by the Department of
Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics of the University of Aveiro.
Since the 2001 edition it is possible to participate in two distinct
modalities:
- The “Micro-Rato” modality
- The “Ciber-Rato” modality
What is the “Micro-Rato” modality?
The "Micro-Rato" modality is a competition between small autonomous
mobile robots, with dimensions not exceeding 300x300x400mm. During the
competition that evolves in an unknown maze, these robots must complete two
objectives in sequence: the first objective is to go from the “departure
area” to the “beacon area” and the second objective is to return to the
“departure area", or as close as possible to that area, using, for
this, the information collected during completion of the first objective. In
any case the robots must avoid any obstacles that they encounter, including
other robots.
The "beacon area” is a 1m diameter circle painted in black (non infrared
reflective), where, in its center, stands a 28cm height infrared beacon. The
"departure area" has no indication or marking that can serve as a reference
to the robots in the competition.
What is the “Ciber-Rato” modality?
In the "Ciber-Rato” modality the competition evolves in a simulated
environment. All virtual robots have the same type of sensors and actuators.
A simulator sends to each robot measured values of the sensors, it receives
from the robots velocity commands to each “motor” and update accordingly the
positions of robots in the maze. The participating teams build the program
that allows their robotic agents, through sensory data sent by the
simulator, to command the "motors" in order to meet the objectives of the
competition.
Additional information can be obtained through the rules of both modalities
(in English) and on the website of the competition (in Portuguese)

- From 22/01/2008 to 22/02/2008 - Team registration
Team registration is accomplished by filling a
registration form (to be made available here on 22nd January). Registration
forms should be sent by mail to the
Organization Comittee, up to the registration deadline (22/02/2008).
Note that a registration form will only be considered eligible if sent
together with the registration fee or with the proof of payment for a valid
bank transfer.
Forms of payment:
Payments regarding FNR 2008 registrations – either robotic competitions or
scientific meeting - can be performed through one of the following methods:
-
International bank check, in euros, endorsed to
"Universidade of Aveiro - Festival Nacional de Robótica", and sent along
with the registration documents.
-
International bank transfer to the Robotics
Portuguese Open, according to the following references:
Company: Universidade de Aveiro
